Alan Mccormick bought his first Nissan Diesel in 1982
"Why replace it? It's still completely reliable!"
In 1956 Alan McCormick purchased a second hand truck to cart lime. By 1998 McCormick Transport had grown into the largest privately owned transport company in Mid Canterbury operating over 100 vehicles including 45 heavy trucks. Although they currently employ 63 full time staff the McCormick family have always remained at the core of the business, Alan's wife Yvonne was a key member of the team and their family have all played hands on roles. Son Paul took over as manager in 1995 and the expansion has continued.
"Our success" says Paul is that we have stuck close to our roots, a rural contractor dealing with local people on a personal level. We are fortunate that as farming has become more mechanised new business opportunities keep opening up to us and we have been able to expand into new areas such as The Five Star Beef Lot, still a part of rural contracting. Three more new Nissan Diesels in 1998 has brought McCormick's fleet of Nissan Diesels up to 13 but still the CWA51 from 1982 soldiers on. "As long as it keeps on performing reliably why even think of replacing it?" Paul echoes Alan's sentiments. « back |
